This item requires a type provider that has the following ID, but this provider could not be found: 'Microsoft. So I found a pseudo-fix for the error. I say 'pseudo-fix' because the fix allows the project to Build and Deploy successfully, even though the error reappears once the project is reopened again the project will Build and Deploy regardless of error. Solution found from this Microsoft forum post here.

While I assumed the feature designer would automatically update itself when I added the layout back to the module, I was wrong: the designer refused to update to reflect the inclusion of the page layout until I restarted Visual Studio! Viva SP1!!! Lots of manual fixups required. I have not tried Visual Studio Update 3 to see if any of this has been fixed.
